Bibby Line Group // 26th May 2021
In May, Bibby Line Group celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week, organised by The Mental Health Foundation, with ‘Nature’ as the theme for 2021.
Over the last 14 months, we’ve discovered walks on our doorsteps and many of us have developed green fingers with our gardens never looking so good! Science tells us that nature has a really positive impact on our mental health and can reduce feelings of isolation.
Throughout the week colleagues took part in activities and accessed resources to help us spend time focusing on our own mental health.
Bibby Financial Services focused on nature and its positive impact, as well as the fight for good mental health.
Each day had a key focus, including launching a running club on Strava which has 39 members already, encouraging virtual coffee mornings between colleagues, reminding colleagues about Mental Health First Aiders, and supporting colleagues to thank one another.
During May, Garic is piloting a training session on mental health awareness in conjunction with the Lighthouse Club – the only charity that provides financial and emotional wellbeing to construction workers – with a view to rolling this out to a wider cross section of colleagues if successful.
The team also received top tips for connecting with nature, advice on maintaining good mental health and Mental Health First Aider contact details.
At BLG Head Office, the team received daily tips on accessing mental health support through the company, as well as a member of the team sharing her experiences in a video Q&A about her personal journey back to good mental health.
This focused activity followed a four week course on mindfulness and two virtual treks to Paris and Rome which, since February have seen the team walk the a combined total of 4,225 miles and counting!
Bibby Marine will soon be launching its internal wellbeing framework so they can support their colleagues all year round, which covers the physical health, mental wellbeing, financial wellbeing and social connections. You can also read how they signed up to protecting marine sector employees mental health.
