Wood you believe it? Bibby colleagues take part in special ‘Plank-off’ fundraiser

Bibby Line Group // 4th April 2022

Throughout March, colleagues from around Bibby Line Group took part in an exercise challenge with a difference, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

‘Planking’ is an activity involving maintaining a position similar to a push-up for the maximum possible time. During March, colleagues trained each day to extend their plank times by five seconds, building to a goal of three minutes.

Within Walker House in Liverpool, on March 31st colleagues from BLG Head Office, Bibby Financial Services and Bibby Marine took part in an office ‘plank-off’, with those not present, sending videos of their efforts. Garic CEO, Mark Albiston even managed to hold the planking position for an astonishing five minutes, in a local depot challenge.

So far colleagues from the BLG Finance Team have raised over £875, which will be match-funded through BLG’s Giving Something Back Programme. Garic also promised to donate £25 to charity for each person that planked during March.

The challenge was promoted by BLG Director of Tax and Finance, Mary Oliver:

“My motivation for doing this challenge was my dad who is currently dealing with cancer for the second time. Macmillan have provided support to him and I wanted to do something to support Macmillan. Thanks to everyone who has taken part in this challenge or donated – 98% of Macmillan’s income comes from donations. Without those donations Macmillan would not be able to provide the support they do to families living with cancer. Families like mine. The training and live event was tough but we worked together, and we managed to exceed our goal, reaching just over three and a half minutes! Well done to everyone who took part.”

There is still time to donate here for Mary and here for Jen Cashin (access to Facebook required).
