COVID-19 – Garic: Providing vital infrastructure support to key projects

Bibby Line Group // 9th April 2020

  • Garic provides welfare units to drive through testing centres
  • Customers thank team for ‘going above and beyond’ during crisis
  • Colleagues supporting community including volunteering for NHS

As one of the UK’s leading welfare unit providers to infrastructure projects, Garic is proud to be playing a critical role in the fight against COVID-19.

Supporting key projects

You may have seen Garic in the news as they are providing welfare units across the country including a coronavirus testing centre that has been set up at Cardiff City stadium to help fight against the spread of COVID-19.

It is hoped that with Garic’s support, the drive through centre can help meet the UK Government target of carrying out 25,000 tests per day.

The units include fresh water provision, waste and fuel tanks, flushing toilets, urinals, hot and cold water, hand dryers, heating, lighting and power generators – making them a perfect fit for the COVID-19 testing centres.

Garic is also finding ways to provide immediate support for their existing clients. An example of the appreciation of this is from Network Rail who were keen to praise the company:

“There were a number of people at Garic went above and beyond what we normally require. But I also want to extend my gratitude to the wider team too. All those involved have shown the true spirit of collaboration in these troubling times.

“Without their actions, Network Rail would not have been able to use St Albans as a temporary delivery unit due to complications at the Watford DU. It certainly saved the planned works that night.”

Supporting colleagues

Garic quickly ensured they were aligned with the UK Government’s advice and introduced additional safety measures across all of our depots and inspecting the supply chain regularly to ensure it’s as clean as possible.

Garic now remain committed to supporting colleagues through the pandemic.

This includes providing a daily communication update to all colleagues (including those on furlough), which includes highlights of the most recent Government updates and support for mental health and wellbeing.

The company also produced a Values poster as a way of recognising the efforts that colleagues are going through in adapting to the new ways of working, matching colleagues to the values they lived (Link to POSTER)

Supporting the community

As well as providing support to colleagues and customers, Garic remain committed to going above and beyond to support communities through the pandemic, including:

  • Supporting frontline key workers by donating hand sanitiser in partnership with the Merseyside Resilience Forum, who are coordinating the provision of PPE for these workers
  • Offering any remaining hand sanitiser stocks to the Wirral NHS
  • A number of their furloughed colleagues have signed up to volunteer and support the NHS

Nigel Quinn, CEO of Garic was keen to pass on his appreciation to colleagues:

“As an organisation we constantly strive to differentiate ourselves through our products, but the real key differentiator is our people.

“Above are some examples whereby the team have not only insured we continue our day to day operations but have also gone above and beyond at both individual and organisational levels serving our customers whilst aiding the greater good in the battle against the spread of Covid-19.

“So whilst it might be a while before we see business as usual again, it is heart-warming to know that this is no usual team. We are #TeamGaric.”
