From bug houses to wine bottle vases… BFS Sustainable Futures Team get creative

Bibby Line Group // 21st October 2021

Earlier this year, the BFS Sustainable Business Futures team celebrated Global Recycling Day through a campaign on Yammer. The aim was to share creative ideas of what to do with your waste.

Highlights included:

  • A video on how to make a bug house out of rubbish (from Nadia Hambidge-Ann, Account Executive)
  • A pizza oven out of stuff from a garage (by Karl Leitelmeyer, Head of Business Centre – Trade)
  • Tips on what can and can’t be recycled (by Gareth Bell, HR Operations Manager)
  • How to make plant pots out of old plastic milk cartons (by Katharina Wirth, Client Relationship Manager)
  • How you can use your left over coffee grounds in the garden to improve organic matter and help with aeration (by Susanne Wheeler, Board Secretariat and EA to CFO)
  • How to repurpose candle pots and other jars (by Jo Barratt, UK Facilities and Health & Safety Manager)
  • How to turn wine bottles into vases (by Paula Sterneman, Talent Acquisition Executive)

Suzanne Cousens, Head of Inclusion & Engagement who led the campaign said:

“We have an amazing group of Sustainable Business Futures champions who meet regularly to discuss environmental subjects and raise awareness through campaigns such as this. I loved seeing the creativity from the Champions and from the other colleagues in our business who got involved and shared their photos.

“The team worked together to make this happen successfully and by encouraging people to think differently about their waste, we are doing the right thing. This supports the Compass vision of being an increasingly sustainable business, minimising our environmental impact and influencing positive change.”
