After 30 years with the Group – 15 years as Chairman and previously as Group Managing Director for 15 years, Simon Sherrard retired after the Bibby Line Group AGM on 9 June.
Simon has been instrumental in the transformation of the Group into a diverse and growing £1.72bn global business.
Sir Michael Bibby said: “Simon has overseen a period of enormous change and significant growth at the Group, initially as Managing Director and latterly as Chairman. His contribution has been invaluable and I would like to thank him for his vision and wisdom over many years”.
Simon has been succeeded by Paul Drechsler who joined the Bibby Line Group Limited Board in July last year as a non-executive director and became Chairman following Simon’s retirement.
Paul Drechsler’s career includes twenty five years with ICI where he was a Main Board Director and ten years with Wates Group, initially as Chief Executive and latterly as Chairman and Chief Executive. Paul is a Non-Executive Director of Essentra PLC and a Board Member of the CBI. He is also Chairman of the charity Teach First and The National Skills Funding Agency.
At Paul’s appointment as Chairman Designate, Sir Michael commented: “We are very pleased to welcome Paul as our new Chairman. He has significant experience of working with family companies and in international markets, which will be of huge importance to us as we continue to grow our global operations.”
Paul Drechsler added: “I am very pleased to become Chairman of a great private business with a proud history, enduring values and a diverse portfolio with exciting future profitable growth opportunities.”
