Bibby colleagues compete in dragon boat regatta, raising around £17,000 for charity

In June, over 70 colleagues from across Bibby Line Group took part in a charity dragon boat regatta in Liverpool docks, raising around £17,000 for charity.

Seven teams made up of employees from Bibby Financial Services, Bibby Marine, Garic, BLG Head Office, along with two members of the Bibby family raised money for 23 separate charities.

Throughout the day the teams were cheered on by dozens of spectators, with the winning boat ‘Dragonboaty McBoatface’ – made up of colleagues from Bibby Financial Services – emerging victorious in a tense finale.

The event was organised by the company as part of its award-winning Giving Something Programme, that supports colleagues to make a difference in their communities and for charity. The total amount is made up of the £10,000 raised by colleagues, plus £7,000 made available through the company match funding scheme.

Charities supported include KIND Liverpool, The Hive, Wirral Youth Zone, Macmillan Cancer Support, British Heart Foundation and Mind.

Mark Easdown, Interim Chief Executive of The Hive said:

‘We are so grateful to the team at Bibby Line Group for their amazing support and their efforts at the Dragon Boat Race. With the cost of living rising at an alarming rate, we can only meet the needs of our community with the support of likeminded businesses, organisations and individuals who believe in our cause.

‘We are seeing a deterioration in young people’s mental health and the pandemic has had a catastrophic impact on their aspirations and career prospects. We hope the Hive 100 campaign will continue to gain momentum and help us to be there for them at the time they need us most. We can’t do the crucial work we do without the help of companies like Bibby Line Group so we really appreciate everything they are doing for us’.

Jonathan Lewis, BLG Group Managing Director said:

“I’m immensely proud of what our colleagues have achieved. Teams from all our businesses and head office came together to fundraise, compete and spur each other on, with the result an amazing amount of money raised for charity.

“This is just the latest in a series of fundraising events to support our communities, as well as giving our colleagues the opportunity to build relationships across the group in the future. My sincere thanks go to everyone who took part, everyone who sponsored them, and the GSB team for making it happen.”

The Giving Something Back Programme is just one element of how BLG supports local communities, and is a key part of the Group’s ‘Project Compass’ sustainability initiative.
